An ongoing project of the Old Woodworking Machines web site is to document as many examples of machines and their serial numbers made by the different manufacturers as possible. The reason we want to document these machines it in order to create a rough timeline as to when a machine was made. Our theory is that if we can create a database of machines and their serial numbers, we can begin to look for the subtle changes made over the years as they improved their machinery which can be determined by old catalogs, ads and similar documentation.

Registry Stewards

The Machine Registry is maintained by a group of volunteers, each of which has agreed to serve as a "Steward" of the registry for a particular manufacturer. If you do not see your manufacturer listed in the list below, it is because we do not currentely have a steward who has volunteered to catalog those numbers. If you would like to serve as a steward for a manufacturer not listed below, please contact the webmaster.

Submitting Machines to the Registry

If you would like to add your machine to the Registry, we ask that you contact the appropiate steward based on the manufacturer (e-mail links are provided below) and provide them with at least the following basic information:

1. Your Name and E-Mail address
2. Machine Type, Model, and basic Descripiton
3. Machine Serial Number
4. Any documentatoin that can date the machine

Also, we strongly encourage you to also submit a Photo Index entry on machines submitted to the Registry. This will allow us to link photos of the machine to the Regsitry as well as give the submitter an opportunity to give more about the machine than what is covered in the Registry. Depending on the manufacturer and steward, you may be asked to provide more information than the above basics but at the very least, we need the above information.
